Standardization of Renewable Energy Grid Integration
This report mainly introduces the international standardization status of renewable energy grid integration. The report starts from the introduction of current status of renewable energy generation and the future development tendency, and presents several system level issues which includes system frequency regulation, Sub-Synchronous Control Interaction (SSCI), fault ride through capability, etc. by illustrating several actual cases happened during the last few years all over the world. It also focuses on the international technical standardization activities in the area of grid integration of renewable energy generation, and give the introduction on IEC, CIGRE activities with regards to hot topics such as fast frequency response (FFR), SSCI, fault ride through (FRT), as well as the updated grid requirements to renewable energy in China.
Dr. Chi Yongning is the secretary of IEC SC 8A “Grid Integration of renewable energy generation”, expert member of IEA GIVAR Advisory Group, and also a member of CIGRE and IEEE. His research interests includes modeling, control and integration analysis of renewable energy generation. He was responsible for formulating the Chinese connection code for wind power and PV, and led several national level research projects with regard to renewable energy grid integration, offshore wind integration. More than 90 papers are published in the area of RE grid integration and most are indexed by SCI & EI. He won the UVIG Achievement Award in 2016, the ESIG Excellence Award in 2019 respectively.
